Vice-Provost, International Affairs Dr. Bonny Ibhawoh recently travelled to Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago to meet with partners at the University of the West Indies (UWI) and reconnect with members of the McMaster alumni community. The visit began at the UWI Mona campus in Jamaica, where Dr. Ibhawoh met with Professor Sandrea Maynard, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Global Affairs.
Their conversation focused on strengthening collaboration between the two universities, including research partnerships and academic exchange. Conversations continued at the UWI St. Augustine campus in Trinidad and Tobago, where existing connections between the institutions include work in engineering, energy systems, environmental science, and health. Dr. Ibhawoh and Professor Maynard also discussed faculty mobility opportunities between UWI’s Institute for Sustainable Development and McMaster Planetary Health Forum.
These visits build on McMaster’s longstanding relationship with UWI, including through the Canada–Caribbean Institute, which McMaster hosted between 2023-2025 to support research and collaboration between Canadian and Caribbean institutions.
Alumni gatherings in both countries also brought together McMaster graduates working across the Caribbean, creating space to reconnect and share updates from the university.
