The issues that arise in the Canada-Caribbean relationship are numerous and range across a number of academic, political, economic and sociological fields and disciplines. Many of these issues are inter-related and can impinge on countries, economies, and societies in a wide variety of ways.
The Canada-Caribbean Institute has identified a number of key issues in its foundational documents that will guide future inquiry and analysis. These include:

- Health and the Environment
- Caribbean culture and the diaspora
- Regional sociological, political, economic, and historical development
- Government and foreign relations
