IDRC partnered with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), a member of the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD), in the Eighth GACD research funding call.

This call focused on implementation-research targeting chronic non-communicable disease risk factors associated with city environments.
IDRC and CIHR are pleased to announce the recipients of this funding. Sonia Anand of McMaster University, Canada, and Simon Anderson of the University of the West Indies will receive funding from IDRC to undertake research on building healthy communities with the dual goals of chronic disease prevention and promoting environmental sustainability through the Sustainability Healthy Active Living project, while Tracie Barnett of McGill University, Canada, will receive funding from CIHR to carry out research on leveraging the built environment to promote physical activity in primary care settings: implementation of a precision health strategy. These CIHR- and IDRC-funded researchers will receive up to CAD2 million over five years to support their implementation-research.
