Source: Jamaica Gleaner

In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, the attention of Caribbean governments is now focussed on immediate responses to the disaster and the longer term process of recovery.

The international community is mobilizing. The UN has promised funding of $4M. See UN News. The EU has promised €450,000 in aid. See Dominica News Online story,

The Government of Canada has indicated that it will provide $1M to support the immediate efforts.

There are a range of charities working in the Caribbean and they are stepping up their fundraising.

Two well known charities with extensive experience in disaster assistance where Canadians can make donations are:

Food For The Poor is a well known and trusted organization in the Caribbean for delivery of disaster assistance. With local networks of staff on the ground in many Caribbean countries, they can deliver aid efficiently to the places in most need. Canadians can contribute directly to relief efforts (and receive a tax receipt) by making a contribution to Food For The Poor Canada.

Canadian Red Cross has also launched an appeal for funds. (Donations will generate a tax receipt)

For those in the Caribbean who may want to make contributions CARICOM, through the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency has created a special account.
