
In collaboration with colleagues at Toronto Metropolitan University, McMaster University is organizing a conference to mark the 90th year of the Caribbean and Canadian author, Austin Clarke. McMaster University shares a unique relationship to Clarke and his work. The university library is home to Clarke’s archives. On September 26 and 27, we will host a two-day conference to both celebrate his literary contributions and to further cultivate awareness of Clarke’s impact in Black Studies, Caribbean Studies, Canadian Studies, and more.
Day 1, September 26, 2024, (McMaster University)
Events include:
- A guided tour of the McMaster Archives and the Austin Clarke Fonds
- Panels and a Roundtable
- Keynote address by Dr. Rinaldo Walcott

Day 2, September 27, 2024, (Toronto Metropolitan University)

- Special roundtable on editing and publishing Clarke
- Closing remarks by Dr. David Chariandy
