International Relations have been thrown into turmoil as a result of the Trump Administration’s approach to an “America First” agenda.
U.S. foreign aid is being dramatically reduced; U.S. tariff policy has ended the rules based trading system and will increase prices; U.S. pressure is being exerted to change an array of positions held by Caribbean countries (Cuban doctors, Venezuelan oil etc.); and longstanding U.S. participation in international organizations and processes working on climate change, trade, public health is being ended.
Things are changing in Canada as well. The country will have a new government to follow the April 28th election. Canada is pre-occupied with dealing with the many tariff and annexation threats from President Trump.
How will Canada and CARICOM States adjust to these changes? What are the new expectations with respect to bilateral cooperation and to the ability to advance issues in an international context.
