Following McMaster’s organizational accreditation to attend the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development Conference earlier this year, Dr. Thomas Marois, Professor of Political Economy and Canada Research Chair in Public Banking, will lead McMaster’s delegation to this important international conference, which includes a McMaster-sponsored event titled “A Global Public Development Bank Ecosystem, Climate-Aligned Finance, and the Right to Development.”
As United Nations Member States gather in Sevilla, Spain, to put in place a renewed global financing framework for sustainable development and reaffirm their commitments to sustainable development and to the 2030 Agenda, McMaster’s in-person event will bring together two closely linked dimensions of Sustainable Development: The Right to Development and Reform of the International Financial Architecture. Specifically, it will share expert evidence on how an intentional and accountable global PDB ecosystem, guided by the Right to Development, offers a viable and achievable pathway to delivering the needed quantity and quality of climate-aligned development finance.
The event is co-organized by Dr. Bonny Ibhawoh, Vice-Provost, International Affairs and Senator William McMaster Chair in Global Human Rights, and Diana Barrowclough, Senior Economist, United Nations Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Division on Globalization and Development Strategies. The key themes will focus on global financial framework, international development cooperation, debt and debt sustainability as well as addressing systemic issues.
