The Study Tours from this Conference are over, but the participants have mapped out programs that they will undertake over the coming year.
The Canada-Caribbean Institute was pleased to be able to participate in the launch event. We will be looking for ways we can help the Study Tour participants advance their work.
In celebration of the 69 year anniversary since the first Commonwealth Study Conference, Canada is proudly profiling the 7 one-year programs developed by the newest alumni from the Caribbean Canada Leaders Dialogue 2025 (CCLD 2025).
Under the CCLD 2025 conference theme Impact-Driven Leadership: Creating Positive Change in Our Communities; following an opening plenary in Toronto, seven teams travelled to one of seven Caribbean countries to explore diversity and inclusion, sustainability and innovation, ethics, impact, collaboration, and advocacy. Closing plenary presentations in Barbados were presided over by Global charity president HRH Princess Anne.
The programs being rolled out in the next year are as diverse as the tours and delegates taking part in CCLD 2025. Each will create value and highlight the cross sectoral learning from labour, government, corporate, academic, and civil society contributors. Programs include:Bahamas – Sunshine Initiative – a hidden disability awareness program
Barbados – Legacy Forward – cross sectoral mentoring with impact
Bermuda – 14 acts of advocacy impact
Dominica – Leadership Dialogue Series – a monthly 60-minute virtual forum of knowledge exchange for social engagement and impact
Grenada – Climate Futures Fellowship Program (CFFP): Building Climate Change Champions
Guyana – Three Pillar Projects – Leadership Development and Knowledge Legacy; Regional Partnerships and Academic Mobility and Digital Inclusion and Innovation
Jamaica – Entrepreneurial training & capacity building in STEM, worker’s rights and mental health
Each one-year program may combine local, national, Caribbean/Canada and Commonwealth actions, with quarterly milestones to ensure measurable and accountable impact.
In 2025, DECSC Canada celebrates its 15 year anniversary, advancing leadership development across the Commonwealth. Canada has hosted 10 CSC conferences, more than any other Commonwealth country. In 2023, the Canadian Board resurrected a 17-year hiatus of global conferences; proudly hosting 248 global Commonwealth delegates across Canada.
In 2 short years, DECSC Canada has proudly supported the development of almost 350 new alumni. We salute all alumni who are applying their CSC leadership experience to advance the 56 member countries, in support of the almost 2.7 billion people of the Commonwealth.
