NCU, DBJ provide Climate Smart Training for Small Farmers

September 9, 2025

Northern Caribbean University (NCU), in partnership with the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ) under its BIGEE project, recently trained 25 small farmers and agri-entrepreneurs in climate-smart solutions through the Climate Change Incubator Programme (CCIP).

Over 10 weeks, participants gained skills in climate science, business model development, financing pathways, and pitch readiness, supported by dedicated business coaches. Their training culminated in climate action plans designed to build resilience, reduce environmental impact, and drive sustainable agri-business growth.

The winning pitch, presented by Annette Salmon of EverGreen Flower Farms, showcased how regenerative practices and local production can reduce imports, create jobs, and strengthen Jamaica’s agricultural sector.

This initiative demonstrates how collaboration between academia and finance can empower farmers to combat climate change while fostering economic growth.
