The Rector of the State University of Haiti (UEH), Dr. Dieuseul Prédélus, recently held a series of meetings at Glendon College of York University, as well as at Laval University, with a view to accelerating the implementation of concrete university partnerships.
“To conclude a collaboration agreement opening pathways for student and faculty mobility, and to advance priority projects in digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI) literacy and knowledge diplomacy,” Dr. Prédélus told l-express.ca.
Expansion of international cooperation
Appointed rector in March 2025, Dr. Prédélus is a specialist in atomic and molecular physics (University of Lyon) and a research professor recognized for his work on environmental issues.
Its inaugural programme focuses on improving the quality of education, reviving research, transparent governance and expanding international cooperation – with a strong focus on digital modernisation and AI literacy.
Francophonie, bilingual education, research and innovation
In Toronto, President Prédélus met with Glendon Principal Marco Fiola to discuss the joint development of initiatives in the areas of Francophonie, bilingual education, research and innovation.
Avenues for collaboration include student and faculty mobility, bilingual/hybrid short programs and joint funding.
Diplomacy of knowledge
The visit to Glendon was a continuation of Lekòl Ayiti A | Toronto Haiti Summer School (August 5–7, 2025), which brought together academics, policymakers, community leaders, and members of the diaspora to explore the interface of evidence-based public policy/Haiti–Canada relations/diplomacy of knowledge.
Participants left with concrete leads: a pilot public policy laboratory, collaborative research projects and strengthened mechanisms for diaspora engagement.
«Lekòl Ayiti A is not just an academic event; it is an incubator of solutions made possible by mutual respect and creativity,” said Dr. Jean-Jacques Rousseau, founder of the initiative.
“Our goal is to prototype ideas that can be deployed and scaled up, with a tangible impact in Haiti and Canada.”
Digital Library, Program Evaluation
Continuing his tour of Quebec City, Dr. Prédélus spoke with the Vice-Rector of International Relations at Université Laval, François Gélineau, “with the aim of establishing an inter-university collaboration aimed at the creation of a digital library, as well as the implementation of an evaluation system for our university programs.”
“We hope that this partnership will allow opportunities for internships and missions for our Haitian administrators/staff, in order to promote the realization of these projects essential to our common academic sustainability,” said Dr. Prédélus.
The mission of the Rector Prédélus continued in Colombia, South America, until October 20, in order to deepen other aspects of international university cooperation.
