Leroy Sibbles (born January 29, 1949, in Kingston, Jamaica) is a celebrated reggae singer, bassist, and producer best known as the lead vocalist of the legendary trio The Heptones, one of the defining groups of the rocksteady era. His early work at Studio One—as a singer, arranger, and prolific session bassist—helped shape the sound of modern reggae, with his bass lines becoming foundational to the genre’s evolution.

In 1973, Sibbles relocated to Toronto, Canada, a move that marked a major new chapter in his career. During his Canadian years, he became a central figure in the country’s reggae scene, recording, performing, and influencing a new generation of artists. His impact was recognized nationally when he won the 1987 Juno Award for Reggae Recording of the Year. Sibbles remained based in Canada through the 1970s and 1980s, continuing to record and perform while strengthening the presence of reggae across the country.

Sibbles eventually returned to Jamaica, where he continues to write, produce, and collaborate, maintaining his status as one of reggae’s most versatile and enduring talents.
