Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) has launched the Global Migration Institute – a new research hub built on more than 25 years of leadership in migration studies.
The institute is led by Professor Anna Triandafyllidou. It brings together TMU’s existing migration programs under one roof, including the landmark Canada Excellence Research Chair in Migration and Integration (CERC Migration), the Canada First Research Excellence Funded program, Bridging Divides and the Toronto Metropolitan Centre for Immigration and Settlement (TMCIS).
“TMU’s leadership in migration research has advanced critical research, supported evidence-based policy, fostered global partnerships and helped to shape conversations on migration in Canada and around the world,” says Triandafyllidou. “The Global Migration Institute is the next chapter for TMU’s leadership in migration studies, ensuring a lasting legacy of excellence.”Steven Liss, TMU’s vice-president of research and innovation, spoke to the institute’s importance at a pivotal moment.
“As global displacement and mobility continue to evolve, and migration continues to be politicized, the institute is well-positioned to lead critical conversations and reshape our understanding of migration in a more positive light. We look forward to building this next chapter together with our community,” he said.
