The Sage Program (Skills to access the Green Economy) was a 6 year (2019 -2025) $18.75 million program implemented by Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) and funded by the Government of Canada.
SAGE linked youth, girls, women and vulnerable populations including students with disabilities and indigenous persons with programs developed by local educational institutions in consultation with employers, hence creating qualified labour training opportunities that are aligned with community and market needs.
SAGE consists of 8 institutional partnerships between the 25 Caribbean TVET institutions and 15 Canadian colleges focusing on delivering gender sensitive skills training programs that meet economic and
environmental needs of the region. SAGE Apprenticeship and Pre-Apprenticeship pilot programs were designed to meet the employment needs of the six SAGE countries. SAGE worked with businesses, industry, Ministries of Education & Labour and the TVET councils to ensure the development and sustainability of apprenticeship in the Caribbean.
With the SAGE program wrapped up, this moment offers a valuable opportunity to take stock of its achievements, identify lessons learned, and to reflect on the evolving needs of Caribbean TVET systems.
Join us for a conversation with the SAGE Administrator and educators from Canada and the Caribbean to explore these issues.
