St Kitts and Nevis: The Federal Cabinet led by the Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew welcomed a two member delegation from Dalhousie University based in Nova Scotia, Canada during its meeting on Monday, September 9th, 2024.

The delegation from the Research-Intensive University consisted of the Vice President of Research and Innovation Dr Alice Aiken and the University Chancellor Dr Rustom Southwell. They were accompanied by Samuel Berridge, the High Commissioner of St Kitts and Nevis to Canada.

The Dalhousie University Delegation addressed the St Kitts and Nevis Cabinet on the potential for establishing closer partnerships and collaboration between the St Kitts and Nevis and the research institution.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas; the Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Geoffrey Hanley; the Attorney-General, Garth Wilkin, and other key delegation, accompanied the Prime Minister Drew to the meeting.

The partnership is said to contribute greatly to the benefit of the twin island Federation, particularly in its goal of becoming a Sustainable Island State.

During the address, Dr Aiken and Dr Southwell delivered an informative presentation to the Cabinet members that showcased the scope of the current areas of partnerships between their institute and St Kitts and Nevis.

In addition to this, the Dalhousie University officials emphasised on the vitality of the expansion of the areas of cooperation and partnership in the emerging sectors, especially as St Kitts and Nevis continues to transform into a Sustainable Island State.

The meeting underscored several promising areas for future collaboration. The discussions included climate smart agriculture to address food and nutritional security. It also featured value addition and Agri-processing, sustainable energy and storage, and building a climate resilient health sector.

For all of these mentioned, the St Kitts and Nevis Federation has already taken significant steps towards achieving it.

Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew extended his gratitude towards Dr Aiken and Dr Southwell for their informative presentation to the Federal Cabinet. He also thanked the Dalhousie University for its interest in strengthening St Kitts and Nevis in meaningful ways that will help it to become a Sustainable Island State.
